Self-catering holiday cottage near Newgale beach, in Pembs Coast National Park - The Granary at Roch Mill
News, news, news: Roch Mill and Granary have gone "Green". We've been building up to this for years. First it was the reed bed for sewage treatment, then underfloor heating (and insulation) to improve heating efficiency, then the introduction of log burning stoves. In October we completed the installation of a 12kW heat pump and solar hot-water panels for our central heating and hot water. And in early December we installed 4kW of Solar PV to help offset our electrcity useage. See Roch Mill for details.
The Granary at Roch Mill is close to Newgale beach and Solva on the edge of St Davids peninsular in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. It is ideal for a couple or small family, though it can accommodate more people if required*. It comprises three rooms: bedroom, shower room and a large living area divided tastefully into three zones for cooking, dining and relaxing (photos). Part of the Granary's charm lies in its creative design. The bedroom, for example, includes a “croglofft” sleeping space for two children, located above a king-sized bed. The croglofft is accessed by a short but steep paddle-tread stair and, because of restricted headroom, is best suited to children under about 12.
*There is also a double sleep sofa in the lounge.<-Click to check Availability and Prices at the Granary->

Is the Granary too small or do you want to bring a pet? - Perhaps our friends Jacqui and John at Rosemoor will have a cottage available better suited to your needs. And if you're looking for a place to stay in mid Wales we recommend you try Penybont near Devils Bridge. This is a traditional cottage recently renovated to a high standard and owned by our friends Denise and Kevin.
We are open all year and prices range from about £300 to £600 per week. Weekend and mid-week breaks are available during low and mid-season - just ask.

Extensive use has been made of natural materials such as slate floors and oak doors and we have reused many of the original timbers in inventive ways. The Granary self-catering holiday cottage is fully equipped with a cooker, microwave, fridge, TV, DVD, video recorder and Hi-Fi and is furnished to a very high standard. A shower room completes the accommodation Photos.
Of course the Pembrokeshire weather is superb all year round, but just in case you should hit a cool spell the self-catering holiday cottage is fitted with underfloor heating throughout and, for that cosy feel, a wood-burning stove.
Immediately outside the front door is a seat
and picnic table overlooking the beautiful Roch Mill gardens
through which the lower mill-race
meanders, and beyond that to the Brandybrook river, and two large ponds,
only a few yards away. Gardens video

Our resident Canada geese hatched 5 fluffy goslings this year (yes, there are five)

Not quite a resident but a local heron is here most days catching eels in our pond

This otter is a frequent visitor and spent a few days in the the garden last year
We have all manner of wildlife here at the Mill, both resident and passing through our six-acre patch. Amazingly, one week we had a stork (yes a STORK) resting on the mill roof. Sorry, no photo as the visitation was observed by neighbours while we were out!
For a few days in Spring we had an otter swimming in the pond and even caught a fleeting glimpse of an otter pup. We think that "mum" was raising a brood under our upturned boat, but the onset of grass cutting was just too noisy for her.
Normally not our most welcome visitor this young cormorant spent a day fishing in our big pond. His favourite catch was eel but he really couldn't get the hang of how to swallow them.

but I do object when they take our blueberries, currents and brassicas.

This picture was taken as the day-old ducklings made their first hazardous journey down to the pond.
